How to Remove Norton AntiVirus from Mac OS X*If you do not have Norton AntiVirus installed, skip to section "UTHSC Anti-Virus Client Instructions for Mac OS X*1. Click here to download and run our uninstaller for NAV on OS X. 2. After the test8.zip file downloads and expands, run test8.pkg. You must enter your passphrase for OS X. 3. Click "Continue". 4. It will then ask that you select a destination disk to install the software. Click your hard drive icon and then click "Continue". 5. Click "Install" to begin the removal process. 6. After you have run through this process, Norton AntiVirus will be removed from your OS X Macintosh. You may continue through the McAfee installation process. *Power User note:This installer deletes the "Norton Solutions" folder out of the Applications folder (or on the root directory of the hard drive), and deletes NortonMissedTasks and NortonAutoProtect out of the Macintosh HD:Library:StartupItems directory. You must be logged in as "root" to remove NortonAutoProtect. UTHSC Anti-Virus Client Instructions for Mac OS XPlease follow these instructions to download and install McAfee Virex for Mac OS X. Do not use this client if you have OS 8 or 9, those directions and the client are different. *You must be updated to OS 10.1.3 or above to install McAfee Virex. Under the Apple in the upper left hand corner of your screen, click on "About this Mac" to get your OS version. Go under "System Preferences" to "Software Updates" to obtain the latest Mac updates for your machine if you are running an older version of OS X than 10.1.3.* 1. Open up Internet Explorer (recommended browser for this installation). Browse to http://antivirus.utmem.edu/ and click on "Download McAfee Anti-Virus". On the next page click on the Windows NT/2000/XP link. 2. If you get a security alert, Click OK. On the subsequent page, click on
the button that says "Click here to continue with the download". 3. Choose whether your machine is a server or a workstation. If you don't know, choose workstation.
4. Choose the operating system that is on your computer.
5. Choose the number of licenses you need (this will usually be one).
6. Enter your Net ID and Net ID password to access the download page. If you do not know your Net ID click here for information about Net IDs. If you do not know your password, please call the HelpDesk at 448-2222 for assistance.
7. Verify all the information and read the paragraph. Click the button "I agree with the above paragraph and wish to continue."
8. The download should automatically begin
and then extract the Virex 7.2.pkg file to the desktop of your machine. 9. Click "Continue" on the first page as seen below. 10. Read the notes before continuing as seen below. You must be updated to at least
OS 10.1.3 in order to install the product. Click "Continue". 11. Select your computer's hard drive as the destination location as seen below.
The "Continue" button will not be available until you select the drive to
install the program on. 12. Click "Install" to do a basic installation on your machine as seen below. 13. The installation process will copy files and finish. The Virex 7 folder will be placed under the "Applications" folder on your hard drive. |
